If you talk to a Richmond native, many of them will say there's not much to do in the city. But as a Richmond transplant, I feel like I'm always finding new activities, festivals, and events to enjoy. There's several articles on things to do in RVA, but they're a bit outdated. Many new businesses have opened up in the last year, and they deserve attention. So enjoy this list of three unique and fun things to do in Richmond, VA!
Winter is the time to stay in, cozy up, and enjoy the holiday season. Check out these three unique things to do in Richmond when the weather gets cold.
- Pour a candle and sip wine at Wick & Sip Candle Lounge.
- Eat a full-course meal while watching a movie at Cinebistro.
- Take Instagram-worthy pictures at one of Richmond's four selfie museums.
Pour a Candle and Sip Wine at Wick & Sip
I am a candle addict, and I was over the moon when I found out that a Black-owned candle lounge had opened right in the heart of downtown Richmond. At Wick & Sip, you can enjoy a glass of wine while creating a perfectly unique candle. This is truly a candle-making experience.
Wick & Sip offers a generous selection of wine to choose from along with a bottle of water. The hosts pour your drinks and prepare your wax, and you get to do everything else yourself. During the workshop, you'll choose your candle jar, up to two scents, a unique label, and decoration to make your candle really pop.
There's no shortage of scents to choose from, ranging from crisp and clean to sensual and exotic. They also have several seasonal scents you can enjoy. The entire process takes about an hour and a half, and you can take your candle home at the end of the session. You don't have to wait overnight like other candle-making workshops.
Eat a Full-course Meal While Watching a Movie at Cinebistro
Visiting Cinebistro at Stony Point Fashion Park was my first time at a dine-in movie theater, and I don't want to go back to regular movie theaters again. I went on a Tuesday, which is the best time to score a deal. On Tuesdays, movie tickets are $5, and you can get an entrée and appetizer or dessert for just $18. They have an extensive drink menu, and you can also order popcorn and movie theater snacks, which is served in fancy, ceramic bowls.
Cinebistro doesn't skimp on the food. The food is restaurant style and delicious, and they don't skimp on the portions either. Arrive at your movie 30 minutes early to enjoy dinner service. The waiters come to your seat, take your order, and bring it to you before the movie starts, just like at a regular restaurant.
Take Instagram-worthy Pictures at one of Richmond's Four Selfie Museums
If you want to do a photo shoot, but don't want to shell out the cash for a professional photographer, then grab your iPhone and head over to a selfie museum in Richmond. I was surprised to learn that Richmond had four selfie museums!
These selfie museums offer great backgrounds for selfies and regular photos. You can do a shoot for your brand, family portraits, or host a birthday party at any one of these selfie museums. Each room is equipped with a ring light. This way, you not only get the best lighting, but you can also use self timer if you go by yourself.
Flick Factory RVA is Richmond's first selfie museum, and they boast a variety of rooms to choose from with tons of interesting props, such as a swing set, grass wall, bicycles, and more. They even host events like paint parties, pumpkin painting, and other seasonal events, and they even have a 360° selfie camera to help you take your best selfie.
F. Stop. Selfie Lounge is another great selfie museum in Richmond that's located in Willow Lawn. F. Stop offers seasonal walls and backdrops too.
Werk It RVA is Richmond's newest selfie museum, and they have the cutest rooms. They host an event every Thursday called "Hersday," which is a networking event for women entrepreneurs.
Selfie Spot RVA hosts a number of brightly-colored rooms with exciting additions, such as a lavender room with a trendy grass wall and adorable matching bicycle and a sky blue room with puffy clouds dangling in the air.
Conclusion
Richmond is full of unique and engaging things to do, and the list is constantly growing. Don't let the cold weather stop you from exploring this historic city. There's always something fun to do around here.
